We did it... or so I thought...
Matt and I have been talking about canceling our cable service ever since we got married, but its taken a long time because there is always some sports season coming up or some discount that Time Warner is wiling to offer us. Last time we called to cancel they did not offer us a discounted package, so Matt switched us...
We weren't sure how long it was going to take into effect, but I recognized it happening when I was standing in the kitchen on Sunday night and heard my husband moan... "NOOOOO!!". I walked into the living room to see him holding the remote and staring at a fuzzy TV screen.
The biggest let down, no ESPN or ESPN2.
We continued to click through the channels and realized that we have all the way up to TNT. I was surprised, I thought we would only get the major networks, but Matt explained that we just switched to "basic"... So, we are weaning ourselves from the tube...

Something tells me that this won't be an issue if we all end up living together! I don't see my husband giving up ESPN anytime soon.
welcome to the world of bare minimum cable.
I feel misrepresented by Kim's comment. I don't watch much ESPN. It's rare these days for me to watch anything other than an actual sporting event. I don't have time for the shows.
The thing that I would not want to give up is the HD programming. Most of what we watch on TV is on the networks. So, giving up the other 100+ channels that we do not watch would be that big of a deal. It would just be hard to go back to "HD Ready" TV.
Correction...
Giving up the other 100+ channels that we do not watch would NOT be that big of a deal.
you'll get used to it :)
Yeah - I feel you Shannon.. It's like I watch 2 show really (other than football - which is another story)
But - i can't be "ready" to watch or plan my life around Lost or Conan so I "need' dvr.
Yes, I realize "need" is not the kind of need like water or air - but you know what I saying. Someone should invent some online store where I can just buy episodes of tv shows or late nite shows... then I could just go to a friends house or a bar for football games....
ahem... iTunes Store
For the record, the Catletts have no cable but lots of HD. If you've got an HD tuner in your TV or an HD Tivo or the like, then you can get HD over the air for the networks.
